Fla. Appeals Court Adds Rules On Pro Se Bar To Civil Suits

Law360, New York (November 27, 2013, 8:12 PM EST) -- Florida's First District Court of Appeal in a split decision Wednesday reversed a lower court's order enjoining a couple — who years earlier had lost in a bank's foreclosure suit — from filing any further pleadings or motions except through counsel, because the lower court did not first provide notice and an opportunity to respond.

In reaching this conclusion, the First District joined the state's Second District in expanding criminal and civil case requirements set forth by the Florida Supreme Court in 1999's State v. Spencer....
