ACLU Sues Catholic Bishops Over Miscarriage Policies

Law360, New York (December 3, 2013, 7:18 PM EST) -- The American Civil Liberties Union filed a negligence complaint in Michigan federal court Friday accusing a Catholic hospital of inflicting severe emotional and physical trauma by concealing treatment options from a pregnant woman experiencing a miscarriage.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Michigan resident Tamesha Means, alleges that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued religious directives that prohibit advising anyone to undergo an abortion under any circumstances, inevitably putting patients at risk.
