La. Board Blasts Suit Blaming Oil Cos. For Coastal Damage

Law360, New York (December 5, 2013, 2:34 PM EST) -- Louisiana's state levee board association on Wednesday overwhelmingly opposed a lawsuit seeking billions of dollars from nearly 100 energy companies to cover coastal damage linked to oil and gas drilling activities, urging a regional flooding authority to drop the legal action.

Representatives from the Association of Levee Boards of Louisiana voted 16-1 in favor of withdrawing the lawsuit, which was filed in July by the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East. The SLFPA-E representative was the only one to oppose the measure.
