Medicare Extends Meaningful Use Deadline For E-Records

Law360, Los Angeles (December 6, 2013, 7:32 PM EST) -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a one-year extension Friday of a deadline for doctors and hospitals to meet increasingly demanding standards for use of electronic health records, or EHRs.

Health care providers will have through 2016 to meet so-called Stage 2 criteria for making meaningful use of electronic records, CMS said, pushing the Stage 3 start date for earliest adopters of EHRs back one year to 2017.
