Senate Passes Consumer Product Safety Bill

Law360, New York (March 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Amid a recent slew of high-profile recalls, the U.S. Senate passed legislation Thursday aimed at enhancing federal oversight of toys and other consumer goods.

The vote was 79-13 in favor of the legislation, known as the Consumer Product Safety Commission Reform Act, with all 13 nay votes coming from Republicans.

The bill will now move to a conference committee with the U.S. House of Representatives, which passed its own version of the bill in December by a 407-0 vote.
