Trade Rep Warns Of Risks In Climate Change Bills

Law360, New York (March 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab said Thursday that certain climate change bills carried enormous risks for trade, and she urged lawmakers to advance trade and environmental objectives in a mutually supportive manner.

In a prepared statement to the Senate Finance Committee, Schwab said “the unilateral imposition of restrictions can lead to reprisals, and could dramatically impact economic growth and markets worldwide – while possibly accomplishing nothing, or worse, when it comes to advancing environmental objectives.”
