US Urges Supreme Court To Take Up Texas-NM Water Fight

Law360, Houston (December 11, 2013, 9:05 PM EST) -- The Obama administration urged the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to allow Texas to proceed with its complaint against New Mexico and expedite a battle between the states over the allocation of water from the Rio Grande under an interstate compact.

U.S. Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr. argued in a brief filed with the high court that Texas has provided sufficient evidence of “an injury to its sovereign rights” to move forward with its case alleging New Mexico is illegally intercepting water destined for Texas....
