Pols Float Faster Tax Deductions For Typhoon Haiyan Relief

Law360, New York (December 16, 2013, 1:55 PM EST) -- Two senators unveiled bipartisan legislation Friday that will provide expedited tax relief to individuals who make charitable donations to aid Philippine communities that were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.

Under the Philippines Charitable Giving Assistance Act, introduced by U.S. Sens. Mazie K. Hirono, D-Hawaii, and Dean Heller, R-Nev., taxpayers who make charitable contributions to disaster relief efforts will be allowed to claim their charitable deduction in their 2013 tax returns if they donate before March 1, 2014.
