High Court Snub Of Drilling Freeze Appeal Will Fortify Feds

Law360, New York (December 17, 2013, 8:27 PM EST) -- With the Supreme Court having declined to hear a contractor's challenge to a post-Deepwater Horizon drilling moratorium, experts say federal officials are well positioned to take drastic regulatory action following an environmental disaster, with little worry that the judiciary will stop them.

The high court on Monday denied a petition for certiorari from Hornbeck Offshore Services LLC, which had challenged a Fifth Circuit decision allowing federal regulators to halt drilling in the Gulf of Mexico following the massive April 2010 BP PLC oil spill.
