NRG, Nat'l Grid Ink $150M Deal To Switch NY Coal Plant To Gas

Law360, New York (December 16, 2013, 5:46 PM EST) -- A coal-fired NRG Energy Inc. facility in western New York will switch to natural gas under a $150 million re-powering agreement with electricity provider National Grid PLC in a deal announced Sunday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that saw electricity reliability concerns trump the state's powerful anti-natural gas lobby.

If approved by state regulators, the deal will see NRG's Dunkirk Power Plant in Chautauqua County re-powered into a gas-burning facility in a project backed by Cuomo's Energy Highway grid reliability initiative and National Grid's buying power....
