Scoopon Pays $1M To Settle Aussie Watchdog's Claims

Law360, New York (December 17, 2013, 3:20 PM EST) -- Online coupon shop Scoopon Pty Ltd. has agreed to pay $1 million for making false or misleading representations to businesses and consumers, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Tuesday.

Scoopon allegedly violated the Australian Consumer Law by making false or misleading representations to consumers about their refund rights and the price of goods advertised in relation to some of its deals, as well as to businesses that there was no cost or risk involved in running a deal with Scoopon.
