EU Moves To Ban Cloning Farm Animals, Sale Of Cloned Meat

Law360, New York (December 18, 2013, 1:36 PM EST) -- The European Commission on Wednesday approved a series of regulations aimed at shielding its market from food products derived from cloned animals by banning imports of clones and outlawing the cloning process for farming purposes within the European Union.

Tonio Borg, the EU's Health Commissioner, said that the regulations seek to address worries from consumers about animal welfare and ethical quandaries related to cloning, which has long been a thorny issue for the 28-nation bloc.
