Three Japanese Cos. Recall Heparin Products

Law360, New York (March 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three Japanese drugmakers have begun a voluntary recall of 17 heparin sodium products as a “precautionary step,” after the blood thinner caused allergic reactions and 21 deaths in the United States.

Wisconsin-based Scientific Protein Laboratories Inc., which sourced heparin's main ingredient in China for the Japanese companies, said on Monday that there had been no adverse events reported in Japan related to the drug.
