Toronto Atty Facing Missing Client Funds Claim Declared Dead

Law360, New York (December 19, 2013, 7:25 PM EST) -- A Canadian law society on Thursday officially declared dead the Toronto attorney who fled the country last month after the group alleged that millions belonging to one of his clients was missing, according to officials and the client's attorney.

The Law Society of Upper Canada, now acting as trustee for a group of Toronto boutiques founded by real estate attorney Javad Heydary, changed his status to "deceased" after confirming his still-unexplained death overseas.
