License Deal Resolves Some MPEG-2 Patent Suits

Law360 (March 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bringing some of the patent infringement disputes in Germany to an end, seven DVD video disc manufacturers have entered into a license agreement with MPEG LA LLC on behalf of a group of electronics companies that own patents covering an MPEG-2 digital video compression standard.

MPEG LA, which manages patent licensing administration for the MPEG-2 patent holders, said Tuesday the license deal has resolved several lawsuits filed in the Dusseldorf District Court by Sony Corp., Koninklijke Philips Electronics NV and other firms.
