Corel Faces Patent Suit Over MPEG Editing Software

Law360, New York (March 11, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Simon Systems Inc. has refiled a suit accusing Corel Corp.'s MPEG editing software of infringing one of its patents and causing over $1.5 million of damages to Simon Systems.

Maryland-based Simon Systems filed its suit against Ottawa-based Corel in district court in Maryland on March 3. It claims that Corel's MPEG editing equipment infringes on U.S. Patent Number 5,559,562, which was issued Sept. 24, 1996, and is titled “MPEG editor method and apparatus.”
