Thompson Stem Cell Patent Appeal Should Be Dismissed

Law360, New York (January 2, 2014, 6:04 PM EST) -- Many professionals in the biotech community have seen recent news releases and commentary relating to a filing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit by a group called Consumer Watchdog (CW). CW, formerly known as the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, is appealing its failed attempt to invalidate the claims of James Thompson’s stem cell U.S. patent 7,029,913 (primate embryonic stem cells). The Thompson ‘913 patent is owned by the University of Wisconsin’s Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).
