EC Reportedly Investigating Nokia Takeover of Navteq

Law360, New York (March 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- European antitrust regulators are reportedly gearing up to take a closer look at Nokia Corp.'s pending $8.1 billion acquisition of electronic map maker Navteq Corp.

The European Commission is concerned that the deal will mean reduced competition in the market for navigational devices, Dow Jones reported Wednesday, citing three unnamed sources familiar with the deal.

Antitrust regulators have already expressed concern that only two companies — Tele Atlas and Navteq Corp. — currently control the market for navigable digital maps that offer complete coverage of Europe...
