By Andrew Scurria (January 6, 2014, 6:02 PM EST) -- A malware campaign penetrated Yahoo Inc.'s advertising network and infected computers throughout Europe for four days last week via malicious digital advertisements, the company confirmed Monday.
In a statement, Yahoo backed up reports that visitors to its European websites, including its Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger services, were served with advertisements that spread a variety of malware from Dec. 31 to Jan. 3. Two Netherlands-based security firms first uncovered the operation on Friday.
"We will continue to monitor and block any advertisements being used for this activity," Yahoo said.
Yahoo offered no specifics on how the ads evaded its security controls...
