Pa. High Court To Hear Cozen Suit Over Pol's Campaign Debt
Law360, Philadelphia (January 6, 2014, 5:58 PM EST) -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court announced Monday that it again would take up the long-running attempt by Cozen O'Connor to retire nearly $500,000 worth of debt accrued by U.S. Rep. Bob Brady, D-Pa., during the his unsuccessful 2007 Philadelphia mayoral bid.
The high court will review a June 2013 Commonwealth Court decision finding that forgiving the debt would violate contribution limits under city election law. The fees have been in limbo since September 2007, when the Philadelphia Board of Ethics issued an advisory opinion saying the campaign continued to be bound by contribution limits even after losing the primary election, and the case...
