Gates Asks Congress To Raise Limits On H1-B Visas

Law360, New York (March 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates urged U.S. lawmakers to consider policies that would expand the availability of a visa program for skilled employees and put more money toward math and science education.

Testifying Wednesday before the House of Representatives Science and Technology Committee, Gates said he was alarmed by the shortage of scientists and engineers.

In a controversial bid, he also pushed for lawmakers to increase the limit of 65,000 H-1B visas, which allow U.S. employers to hire foreign workers with specialized skills.
