GAO Knocks Vehicle Navigation Cos. For Privacy Shortfalls

Law360, New York (January 7, 2014, 4:20 PM EST) -- Vehicle location tracking is being deployed without industry-standard disclosures and privacy controls, the Government Accountability Office said Monday, prompting a U.S. senator to renew calls for related legislation that stalled last year.

The watchdog report, dated Dec. 6 and released Monday, examined location-based services offered by automakers and navigation technology providers and found that some companies are operating in the space with data security policies that don't adhere to recommended industry practices.
