House Bill Would Mandate Quick ACA Data Breach Alerts

Law360, New York (January 7, 2014, 3:32 PM EST) -- The chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's health subcommittee is introducing legislation to make the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services promptly inform consumers about data breaches from the Affordable Care Act health care exchanges, he said Monday.

Joe Pitts, R-Pa., is sponsoring the Health Exchange Security and Transparency Act, which would require the HHS to inform consumers within two days about any personal data breach on state and federal health care exchanges, according to a statement by the congressman.
