FTC's Brill Urges Speedy Action On Patent Troll Bills

Law360, New York (January 8, 2014, 3:44 PM EST) -- Neither Congress nor antitrust enforcers should wait for the Federal Trade Commission to complete its in-depth study of patent assertion entities to take action to address problems with or abuses of the patent system, Commissioner Julie Brill said Wednesday.

While Brill said the agency's study would create a better, more accurate portrait of PAEs, less charitably known as patent trolls, she emphasized that lawmakers shouldn't wait for the FTC to take action.
