Sen. Carper Joins Volunteer Firefighter ACA Mandate Fight

Law360, New York (January 8, 2014, 3:44 PM EST) -- U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., on Wednesday said he is co-sponsoring legislation that will exempt volunteer firefighting and emergency response organizations from the Affordable Care Act's health coverage mandate, which requires large employers to provide coverage or face penalty taxes.

Organizations with 50 or more employees must provide health care coverage under the ACA and a growing number of lawmakers are concerned that volunteer emergency services will be subject to the ACA's mandate.
