U.S. Settles Medicare Class Action For $666M

Law360, New York (March 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a landmark settlement, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has agreed to pay $666 million to settle a massive class action filed over Medicare reimbursements.

The settlement, disclosed on Wednesday, will bring an end to litigation that grew from a single suit to include 667 hospitals as plaintiffs. “This is believed to be the largest settlement in the Medicare context,” said Christopher L. Keough, the Vinson & Elkins partner who filed the lead case in the suit.
