Medical Groups Defend Jurisdiction In ACA Fight At DC Circ.

Law360, Washington (January 10, 2014, 6:21 PM EST) -- Two medical groups on Friday told the D.C. Circuit that a lower court had erred in dismissing their Fifth Amendment challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, while a circuit judge told the U.S. government that its short briefing in the long-shot case appeared “arrogant."

The groups’ attorney Lawrence Joseph spent much of his oral argument defending the jurisdiction of his clients' suit, which challenges the constitutionality of the ACA's so-called minimum coverage provision.
