Pa. Rep. Seeks To Tax Fracking To Fund Roads, Transit

Law360, New York (January 14, 2014, 1:11 PM EST) -- A bill introduced Monday in the Pennsylvania General Assembly would attach a tax on natural gas development to repairing the state’s roads and transit services.

House Bill 1947, drafted by state Rep. Kevin Haggerty, D-Lackawanna, would provide for a 5 percent severance tax on the gross value of each 1,000 cubic feet of natural gas extracted in the Keystone State, plus an additional 4.6 cents per 1,000 feet of natural gas extracted.
