DOI Wants Shell To Show It Has Fixed Arctic Drilling Woes

Law360, New York (January 17, 2014, 6:10 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior wants Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s assurance that the energy giant has fixed the problems that have plagued its Arctic drilling fleet before approving its revised exploration plan for the Chukchi Sea, according to a notice published Thursday.

Shell, which ended its operations during the 2012 Arctic drilling season before they began and canceled 2013 operations amid numerous issues with its drilling vessels and equipment, submitted its initial revised exploration plan to the DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management in November,...
