Utility Would Gain $48M From Pa. Rate Hike In Settlement

Law360, Philadelphia (January 17, 2014, 5:07 PM EST) -- Duquesne Light Co. has reached a settlement with state regulators, consumer advocates and industrial electricity users over a proposed rate increase, asking a Pennsylvania administrative law judge Thursday to approve the deal allowing an estimated $48 million in new revenues.

The power company, which services more than 500,000 customers in southwestern Pennsylvania, initially sought a rate hike that would yield a $76 million annual boost in operating revenues, but a wide range of parties challenged the bid before the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission.
