Chemical Storage Co. Hits Ch. 11 In Wake Of W.Va. Spill

Law360, New York (January 17, 2014, 9:53 PM EST) -- The company blamed for the massive chemical spill that contaminated drinking water for hundreds of thousands of West Virginia residents filed for Chapter 11 on Friday, dragged down by a host financial and legal troubles stemming from the incident.

Freedom Industries Inc. sought protection in West Virginia bankruptcy court, saying that in the past week the combined pressure of demands for upfront payments and a score of lawsuits over the spill threatened to swamp the company, according to court filings.
