EU Steps Up Antitrust Probe Of $6B Plastics Joint Venture

Law360, New York (January 23, 2014, 1:06 PM EST) -- The European Commission raised objections to a proposed $5.8 billion plastics joint venture between chemical companies Ineos Group Ltd. and Solvay SA, a representative for Solvay said Wednesday, following a November announcement that the regulator would conduct an in-depth antitrust investigation into the transaction.

A spokesperson for the EC declined to provide details on the statement of objections, as the agency does not typically comment on ongoing merger investigations, but a representative from Solvay said the company was in the process of reviewing the complaint....
