EU Panel Advances Tobacco, E-Cigarette Overhaul

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 2:32 PM EST) -- A key European Union legislative committee approved a bill Wednesday that would impose new restrictions on the sale of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, bringing the regulatory overhaul one step closer to implementation.

The European Parliament's Public Health Committee voted 49-21, with three lawmakers abstaining, to endorse draft legislation put forward by representatives of member state governments in December. The full Parliament will vote on the legislation at a Feb. 24-27 or March 10-13 session.
