Fed. Circ. Strikes Down Medtronic Heart Valve Patent

Law360, New York (January 22, 2014, 4:17 PM EST) -- The Federal Circuit on Wednesday handed a victory to Edwards Lifesciences Corp. in its ongoing patent row with Medtronic CoreValve LLC over transcatheter heart valve technology, affirming a California federal court's decision to invalidate a Medtronic patent it had asserted against its rival.

In a unanimous opinion, the three-judge panel rejected efforts by Medtronic to peg the priority date of U.S. Patent Number 7,892,281 to the filing of a French patent application on Oct. 31, 2000, noting that the company had omitted references to earlier applications...
