Covidien Wins Surgical Tool Patent Suit By J&J Unit

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 7:59 PM EST) -- Covidien PLC won an Ohio federal court’s ruling in a patent infringement suit by Johnson & Johnson unit Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc. that found its ultrasonic dissection surgical tool does not infringe the disputed Ethicon patents, Covidien said Wednesday.

The finding came in a summary judgment ruling filed under seal, according to Covidien, which said that the ruling dismisses the suit and that it can keep selling its Sonicision Cordless Ultrasonic Dissection Device that had been approved by federal regulators in February 2011.
