EU Climate Plan Has Clean Energy Industry On Edge

Law360, New York (January 24, 2014, 7:49 PM EST) -- The climate plan unveiled Wednesday by the European Union’s executive arm scraps binding national targets for renewable energy use in favor of an EU-wide target, a move experts say will deepen national divisions over clean energy development and cause nervous developers and manufacturers to shift their focus to more welcoming markets beyond Europe’s borders.

The European Commission’s proposal, which calls for a 40 percent carbon pollution reduction from 1990 levels by 2030, also requires that renewables make up 27 percent of the EU's energy portfolio but...
