China to Ease Restrictions on Foreign Investors

Law360, New York (January 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- China’s securities regulator has circulated among foreign financial institutions and stock exchanges a proposal to loosen limitations on foreign investors in a bid to boost interest in the country’s publicly traded securities market.

The new rules, drafted by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), would amend the existing Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) program by lowering the capital requirement for new investors and granting access to more foreign institutions.

The CSRC is soliciting the money managers’ opinions on the rules.
