Labarga To Become Fla.'s 1st Cuban-American Chief Justice

Law360, Miami (January 30, 2014, 2:10 PM EST) -- Jorge Labarga has been unanimously elected by his six colleagues on the Florida Supreme Court to guide the state's judicial system as Chief Justice starting July 1, the court announced Thursday.

Justice Labarga, who will succeed Chief Justice Ricky Polston for a two-year term, will become the first Cuban-American to hold the post. He has served as a judge since 1996, including the last five years in the state's highest court.
