CPA Can't Duck Jail Despite 6-Year Trial Delay: 6th Circ.

Law360, New York (January 30, 2014, 5:34 PM EST) -- The Sixth Circuit on Thursday upheld a prison sentence handed down to a CPA who admitted to filing false tax returns, despite his argument that the government violated his Sixth Amendment rights by failing to try him for more than six years.

In a unanimous opinion, Judge Richard A. Griffin pointed out that Harry H. Jones fled from prosecution more than six years ago, and he could claim a violation of his constitutional right to a speedy trial while also concealing himself from the government....
