Ex-Chesapeake CEO Ups Utica Assets Amid Deal-Making Blitz

Law360, New York (February 3, 2014, 12:12 PM EST) -- Private equity-backed American Energy Partners LP, founded by the former head of Chesapeake Energy Corp., on Monday folded another 56,000 acres into its Utica Shale holdings as it jockeys for market share on the heels of another big buy last week.

The Oklahoma upstart did not say how much it would pay to lift ownership of the acreage from Exxon Mobil Corp. and Paloma Partners LLC. Last week, the fledgling firm agreed to fork over $924 million for a 74,000-acre Utica swath held by Hess Corp....
