FTC Rep. Urges Lawmakers To Improve Data Breach Authority

Law360, Washington (February 3, 2014, 8:00 PM EST) -- The Federal Trade Commission does whatever is within its power to sanction companies for unfair and deceptive practices related to consumer financial data breaches, but needs new federal standards to enforce data security and breach notification violations, a senior FTC official told lawmakers Monday.
