Hazardous Waste Rule Threatens To Expose Trade Secrets

Law360, New York (February 7, 2014, 8:41 PM EST) -- A new federal rule making toxic waste information publicly available online is intended to increase transparency, but experts say it could ultimately end up harming companies that generate hazardous materials by allowing rivals to swipe product formulas and steal away clients.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it will not accept any confidential business information claims for the hazardous waste manifests, classifying the shipment documents as public information in a final rule published in Friday's Federal Register.
