HHS Watchdog Says Rules For 340B Drug Program Unclear

Law360, Washington (February 5, 2014, 7:30 PM EST) -- Community health centers and hospitals are interpreting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' 340B drug pricing discount program differently, leading to inconsistent application of discounts at contracting pharmacies, a watchdog said Wednesday.

A report by the HHS Office of Inspector General found that providers partnering with retail pharmacies to dispense their prescriptions often make different decisions about which drugs are eligible for the program, suggesting the rules are not clear.
