EPA Authorizes E-Manifests For Hazardous Waste Shipments

Law360, New York (February 6, 2014, 12:59 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday finalized a rule allowing electronic manifests for hazardous waste transportation as an alternative to the paper forms that have been required for tracking shipments.

Documents obtained from the agency's national e-manifest system are now legally equivalent to the hard copy manifests currently used for hazardous waste, the EPA said in a notice posted on its website and scheduled for publication in Friday's Federal Register.

The EPA estimates that the rule will cover approximately 160,000 businesses and other entities involved...
