Wyo. Lawmakers Push For Coal, Flaring Tax Overhaul

Law360, New York (February 7, 2014, 2:09 PM EST) -- A Wyoming bill that would lower taxes on coal but ditch a tax exemption on flaring from oil and natural gas operations moved closer to committee review Friday, with lawmakers pushing for lower taxes on coal producers in the state.

House Bill 0066, proposed by Rep. Eric Barlow, R-Campbell, and Sen. Ogden Driskill, R-Crook, would lower the 7 percent severance tax on coal mined from the surface to 6 percent, and drop the 3.75 percent severance tax on coal extracted from underground mines to 3 percent....
