FDA Report Finds Big Drop In Drug Shortages

Law360, Washington (February 7, 2014, 4:52 PM EST) -- The number of drug shortages in the U.S. dropped heavily last year, suggesting the Obama administration’s aggressive effort to combat drug scarcity is bearing fruit, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration report released on Friday said. 

The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, or CDER, said it successfully prevented 140 shortages from January 1, 2013, to September 30, 2013. There were 38 shortages in the first three quarters of 2013, compared to 117 in the calendar year 2012, on track to continue a major decline...
