DaVita To Pay $389M, Unwind Deals To End Kickback Probes

Law360, New York (February 12, 2014, 2:07 PM EST) -- Dialysis giant DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. expects to pay $389 million and unwind nearly a dozen joint ventures to resolve anti-kickback investigations surrounding its relationships with kidney doctors, it said Tuesday.

The dollar amount was similar to what DaVita projected last year would result from inquiries into so-called partial divestitures to nephrologists. Eleven joint ventures covering 28 clinics are likely to be unwound, with DaVita saying it would buy out physician stakes in most cases.
