OSHA Levies $1M In Fines For Fatal Tunnel Fire

Law360, New York (March 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed more than $1 million in fines against RPI Coating Inc. and Xcel Energy in the wake of last year's fatal tunnel fire in Colorado.

OSHA said Monday that it was seeking $845,100 in penalties against RPI and $189,900 against Xcel Energy for “serious and willful violations of federal workplace safety and health standards” that allegedly resulted in a fire that killed five RPI employees.
