Ohio Creates Program To Fight Unemployment Benefits Fraud

Law360, New York (February 14, 2014, 5:57 PM EST) -- Fraudsters who game Ohio’s unemployment system will have their federal tax refunds automatically intercepted and dumped into state coffers thanks to a newly minted federal-state partnership program, according to a state agency announcement Thursday.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the agency that oversees the state’s unemployment compensation program, said it has teamed up with the Internal Revenue Service and hopes to reclaim millions by using the new Treasury Offset Program.
