Antitrust Claims Sour Goodyear On Sumitomo Alliance

Law360, New York (February 14, 2014, 5:45 PM EST) -- Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. is trying to sever its longtime partnership with Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. through arbitration proceedings after the Japanese tire manufacturer allegedly engaged in anti-competitive conduct, Goodyear said Thursday.

Laura Thompson, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Akron, Ohio-based tire maker, said during a conference call focused on the company's 2013 fourth-quarter earnings that Goodyear was attempting to end its 15-year relationship with Sumitomo and was seeking damages from its business partner in Asia.
